Sambalpur: Brutal Murder Over Property Dispute; Siblings Kill Sister with Knife During Uncle’s Funeral

Family Bond Turns Bloody

Sambalpur: A tragic incident unfolded in Majhipada village under Bamra’s Gobindpur police limits, where a woman was brutally murdered by her own siblings over a share in family property. The victim, identified as 40-year-old Lina Sahu, was attacked with a sharp knife by her elder sister Mili Sahu (42) and younger brother Golak Sahu (38).

Murder Over Property Share

The incident took place around 11 AM on Sunday. According to police reports, the siblings attacked Lina in a fit of rage after she demanded her share of the property. Their father, Binod Bihari Sahu, a former panchayat secretary, had earlier sold a portion of their land. Lina had asked for her rightful share, but when she was denied, she filed a case in court. The court had ordered Binod to divide the property equally.

Family Disputes and Court Case

Lina, who was married but had returned to her paternal home after separating from her in-laws, was staying in Sambalpur and working at a jewellery store due to constant disputes at home. Mili, the elder sister, had also returned to their father’s house after her marriage ended. Golak, the youngest, was unmarried.

After the court’s verdict, frequent arguments broke out among the family members. The situation escalated as they began threatening Lina and warned her not to visit Bamra again.

Murder in Broad Daylight

On Sunday, Lina had gone to her elder uncle’s workplace for some personal reason. Upon hearing this, Golak confronted his father, asking who had called Lina. When he learned that no one had called her, he and Mili went straight to the uncle’s house. There, in front of other family members, they attacked Lina with a knife and killed her.

Victim Declared Dead at Hospital

Family members rushed Lina to Gobindpur Community Health Centre, but doctors declared her dead upon arrival.

Police Investigation Underway

Gobindpur police, along with a scientific team, reached the spot and began an investigation. A murder case has been registered, and police are continuing their inquiry into the incident.
