Sambalpur: Cyber Fraud Through PM Kisan App, Farmer Loses Rs. 38,000

Sambalpur: Sudhir Padhi, a resident of Khandual village under Dhanupali police station, has become a victim of cyber fraud. Interestingly, he does not use ATM cards or UPI services. However, last Friday, he found that Rs. 38,000 had mysteriously disappeared from his bank account.
Money Transferred Without His Knowledge
Soon after discovering the fraud, Mr. Padhi went to the main branch of Punjab National Bank in Khetrajpur, where his account is located. According to the bank’s internal inquiry, the money had been transferred from Mr. Padhi’s account to another account held in HDFC Bank by a person named Manoj.
Shockingly, the bank officials said they found no further details about the HDFC branch or the account holder Manoj.

Fraud Linked to PM-KISAN App
After that, Mr. Padhi also lodged a complaint at the Cyber Police Station in Khetrajpur. Following a preliminary investigation, officials found that the fraud was carried out using the PM-KISAN mobile app.
Jurisdiction Issues Slow Investigation
Since the amount stolen was less than Rs. 2 lakh, the Cyber Police Station advised Mr. Padhi to file the complaint at Dhanupali Police Station instead.
This incident has raised fresh concerns about the security of government apps and the challenges faced by ordinary citizens in dealing with cyber crimes.
