Sambalpur: BJD roars over cooking gas price hike
In the case of Mamita Meher, the ruling party has been the first to respond in a major way to the BJP’s more than a month-long crackdown. On Tuesday, the BJP staged a sit-in protest in front of the Revenue Commissioner’s office in protest of the unreasonable hike in cooking gas. Thousands of BJD women, youth and student Janata Dal (BJD) activists joined the protest and demonstrated the power of the party. Raseshwari Panigrahi led the women. All of the district’s top leaders attended the event.
The demand letter was sent to the President through the Revenue Commissioner in the presence of Snehangini Churia, President of the State Women’s Congress. Among the other senior leaders were State Superintendent for Sambalpur District Nalinikanth Pradhan, Sambalpur District BJD President Siddhartha Das, former MP Pramila Bahidar, former SDA president Vijay Mohanty at the forefront of the keynote address.
“The government has made it difficult for the general public to raise the prices of basic necessities, including cooking gas,” said. Former legislator Dr. Raiseshwari Panigrahi said the price of cooking gas, which was available at Rs 425 a few years ago, is now Rs 975. This government has brought tears to the eyes of mothers. It will have to bear the consequences in the coming days. The ruling party’s chief whip, Rohit Pujari, said Naveen Patnaik’s government was doing as much as it could for the betterment of the people.
