Sambalpur: Searching for number on Google to fix AC, Rs 50,000 deducted from account

Sambalpur: In the city of Sambalpur, cyber fraud has not stopped. While police are unable to catch cybercriminals, cyber fraud is on the rise. A man from Danipali, Sambalpur, was the victim of a cyber scam on Saturday. A cyber fraudster has deducted a total of Rs 50,000 from his account. A few days ago, he bought an AC from Tata Voltaire and installed it in his house. For some reason, his AC deteriorated a few days later. He did a Google search for a Voltaire AC custom customer service number on Google to get the Door Step service due to AC outages. He contacted a cyber fraudster, claiming that the number he received from Google was a customer care number. The cyber fraudster asked the him for personal information such as the bank’s attached mobile number, OTP. He went through all the details of being a customer care. The fraudster first said he had to pay Rs 10 for service charges. Then the cyber fraudster asked him for OTP. After he shared the OTP, one transaction after another, the cyber scammer continued to withdraw money from his account. A cyber fraudster defrauded a total of Rs 50,000 from his account by making more than four transactions. The victim lodged a complaint with the Ainthapali police station on Saturday night. Police are investigating.
