Sambalpur: During the smuggling, 22 quintals of timber woods were seized
Sambalpur: Once again, the timber was caught while smuggling. Wood thieves are now eyeing this particular tree used for making toys and designing furniture, while it is being widely exported from various forests in Sambalpur district. While caught in the act of smuggling timber, most timber are moving out of state to make wooden toys and furniture.
On Monday, a Tata 207 pickup van (ORF-17F-0915) carrying timber was caught during smuggling and was seized near Hutuma village under Sambalpur Sadar police station. The raid was carried out by the forest department of the Odisha Vigilance Department and a 22-quintal kurtu wood worth about Rs 2.5 lakh was seized in that raid, a press release said.
