A New Era in Odisha Politics: Mohan Government Begins
A new era has begun in Odisha politics with the start of the Mohan government. Mohan Charan Majhi made history by establishing the first BJP government in the state.
At a ceremony held at Janata Maidan in Bhubaneswar, Mohan Charan Majhi was sworn in as the 15th Chief Minister of Odisha. Prime Minister Narendra Modi, several Union ministers, and chief ministers attended the event. Odisha Governor Raghubar Das gave the oath before tens of thousands of supporters and party workers, who cheered loudly.
This marks a new chapter in Odisha’s political history. The state, known for its heritage, culture, and traditions, now has its fifteenth Chief Minister, a popular tribal leader from Keonjhar, known for his political acumen and experience. Alongside Mohan, Deputy Chief Ministers Kanak Vardhan Singh Deo and Prabhati Parida also took the oath of office and secrecy. Prabhati Parida is notably the first woman Deputy Chief Minister of the state.
The newly inducted Cabinet Ministers include Suresh Pujari, Rabi Narayan Naik, Nityanand Gond, Krushna Chandra Patra, Prithviraj Harichandan, Mukesh Mahaling, Bibhuti Bhusan Jena, and Krushna Chandra Mahapatra. Additionally, Ganesh Ram Singkhuntia, Suryabanshi Suraj, Pradeep Bala Samanta, Gokulananda Mallik, and Sampad Chandra Swain were sworn in as Ministers of State with independent charge.

This shift follows 25 years of rule by a different party. For the first time, the BJP has formed an independent government in Odisha, winning the elections by a landslide. The magnificence of this government formation, the first of its kind in Odisha, was reflected in the presence of Chief Ministers from nine states, several Union Ministers, former Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik, and numerous distinguished personalities from politics, sports, business, and entertainment. Many saints from within and outside the state gathered to bless the new government. The enthusiasm among leaders, workers, supporters, and thousands of common people was boundless.
With the swearing-in of two Deputy Chief Ministers and eight Cabinet Ministers, the 16-member Council of Ministers marks the official start of the Mohan government in Odisha.
Sources indicate that senior BJP leader and Ranpur MLA Surama Padhy is likely to be elected as the new Speaker of the Odisha Assembly.
