Sambalpur: Another Accident Near the Collector’s Office; Overbridge Pole Continues to Threaten Lives!

Repeated Accidents Spark Demand for Expansion and Clearance
IG Reaches the Scene, Promises Immediate Resolution

Sambalpur: Another accident occurred near the Collector’s Office, this time in front of the mosque. A vehicle decorating street lights collided with an overbridge pole. Despite moving slowly, the vehicle’s top section collided with the pole. The collision created a loud noise, and the impact crushed the front of the vehicle. Fortunately, the driver and another worker sitting beside him suffered only minor injuries. Furthermore, two bikers passing by narrowly escaped serious injury.

This isn’t the first time an accident has happened here. Narrow roads and illegal parking are common causes of accidents. Vehicles are frequently parked haphazardly along the mosque’s side, requiring drivers to maneuver dangerously close to the poles. Any minor error leads to a collision, especially when larger vehicles pass by. While slow vehicle movement has prevented serious injuries thus far, locals are concerned about the poles’ constant threat. As a result, there is a growing demand for the road to be expanded immediately and all obstructions removed. The presence of large trees along the road adds to the problem’s complexity.

IG’s Intervention

After today’s accident, IG Himanshu Lal rushed to the scene. On his way to the SP office, he stopped to investigate the cause of the accident. Locals at the site blamed the incident on illegal encroachments and parking. City planners questioned the road layout’s design, as they noticed some poles placed directly in the middle of marked lanes, creating visibility hazards for drivers. This issue primarily affects larger vehicles, which are more likely to collide with poles. The IG assured the public that a solution would be implemented immediately.

Traffic Issues Under the Overbridge

Traffic congestion under the overbridge has been a recurring problem. The narrow roads and illegal parking severely disrupt traffic flow. Road expansion has long been in demand, with repeated public calls. Previous governments neglected to address the issue, but citizens now hold renewed hope that authorities will widen the road to alleviate traffic congestion.
