High-Tech Cameras to Be Deployed
Commissioner Vedabhusan also stated that 80 high-capacity CCTV cameras, 10 facial recognition cameras, 30x zoom cameras with a 200-meter surveillance range, and 12 high-resolution traffic control cameras would be installed at these intersections. Furthermore, discussions are underway to increase the number of cameras as necessary. The tender process has been simplified to make it easier to install additional CCTV cameras at future locations.
CCTV Surveillance in Sambalpur
Since the establishment of the Sambalpur Municipal Corporation in 2018, CCTV surveillance has received increased importance. At the time, 63 CCTV cameras were installed at various intersections throughout the city, but many have since stopped working. Some of these cameras were recently repaired. Unlike other major cities such as Bhubaneswar and Cuttack, where CCTV is widely used for security, Sambalpur has yet to fully embrace CCTV surveillance. However, it has been shown to be effective in other cities in solving serious crimes such as car thefts and murders. Despite the city’s growing importance, Sambalpur continues to lack comprehensive CCTV coverage.
