Sambalpur: ATM Robbery Case Solved in Sambalpur: Rs. 19.64 Lakh Recovered, Main Accused Arrested

Sambalpur: The mystery behind the ATM robbery at SBI’s Bazaar Branch in Sambalpur has been solved. Shockingly, the mastermind behind the crime was none other than an employee of the cash-loading agency. Within just 24 hours, the police arrested the main accused, Suman Sahu (25) from Jujumura. The police also recovered Rs. 19.64 lakh from him. SP Mukesh Bhamu shared these details in a press conference.

How the Robbery Happened

SP Bhamu revealed that the robbery took place last Tuesday. While the accused was taking out cash, the ATM alarm went off, immediately alerting both the bank and the police. The bank manager filed a written complaint, and the police quickly began their investigation.

After thoroughly checking CCTV footage from the ATM and surrounding areas, the police identified Suman as the prime suspect. When questioned, he confessed to the crime.

Employee Misused His Knowledge

A private agency was responsible for loading cash into the ATM. Suman was an employee of this agency and knew exactly how to open the ATM. Using this knowledge, he easily withdrew the cash.

Seized Items

During the arrest, the police recovered Rs. 19.64 lakh in cash, two mobile phones, one SIM card, and a screwdriver. The recovered money will be returned to the bank.

Further Investigation Underway

The police are now investigating whether Suman committed similar crimes at other ATMs. They are also checking if anyone else was involved. SP Bhamu stated that further details would come to light after the investigation.

Public Reaction and Security Concerns

People have appreciated Sambalpur police for solving the case and recovering the cash within 24 hours. However, this incident raises concerns about ATM security, especially in crowded areas.

Interestingly, a few days ago, another ATM theft attempt took place in Bhalupali, under Ainthapali police station. In that case, the thieves tried to break open the ATM but failed because the machine caught fire suddenly. So far, the police have not arrested anyone in that case.
