Sambalpur: Baba Prafulla Mahala Arrested for Alleged Rape in Rairakhol Ashram; Accused of Drugging and Assaulting Young Woman
Sambalpur: In a shocking incident, Sambalpur police arrested a man known as Baba Prafulla Mahala (44) from an ashram in Baishnambajhuli village under Rairakhol police station. The arrest followed allegations of rape lodged by a young woman from Charmal area.
Role of the Accused at the Ashram
Mahala, a resident of Bhaliapadar village in Boudh district, had been managing the ashram for the past six months. During this time, he performed religious rituals and provided herbal medicines to visitors seeking help.
Sequence of Events Leading to the Allegation
The victim, who had been suffering from acidity, visited the ashram on the morning of the incident to seek relief. Baba Mahala reportedly asked her to wait, promising her medication. He gave her two tablets, claiming they would cure her condition, and also offered her water. Trusting him, the woman consumed the tablets and water.

However, shortly afterward, she lost consciousness. Allegedly, taking advantage of her condition, Mahala sexually assaulted her.
Police Action
After regaining consciousness, the victim immediately reported the incident to Rairakhol police. Acting swiftly on her complaint, the police arrested Mahala from the ashram in the evening. Authorities stated that he would be presented in court on Saturday.
