Beware of UPI payments! Fake UPI holder fraudster rises in Sambalpur
Sambalpur: Do you accept payment by UPI scan code in your shop? So be careful. Otherwise, you will fall prey to fraud in the blink of an eye. Because fake UPI users are now seen in Sambalpur. These fraudsters can cheat you out of thousands of rupees in the name of UPI transactions. Because many such incidents have come to light in the last 6 months in Sambalpur city. A person was arrested by the police for making such a transaction on Saturday. However, the police detained the said person in the police station for questioning and are checking the UPI app through which he was sending money.
According to the complaint, the man buy screen guards and covers from a mobile shop in Budharaja on Wednesday. Asked to pay money through UPI. The person sent the money and showed the successful transaction page. But the money did not come to the shopkeeper. The shopkeeper asked him to wait. However, he said he had work and won the shopper’s trust by introducing himself as a Navy officer. He gave a number and asked to report if the money did not come and left. But later when dialing the said number it showed switch off. The shopkeeper, chased the person who left, claiming to be a Navy officer who was traveling in a car. Both the front and rear number plates of the said car were hidden by the man by covering them with paper. After catching the man near Ashoka Talkies, the Dhanupali police station picked him up after getting information. A woman was also with the man.
However, within a short period of time, several shopkeepers who were victims of fraud reached the police station. Calling himself as an executive engineer and as a navy officer, the businessmen filed a complaint against the man who cheated. On the other hand, the man had bought more than 10,000 rupees from a cloth shop in less than 6 months and was defrauded in the same way. Later, the shopkeeper went to the man’s house and file a complaint with the police station. Not only that, less than 4 months later the man bought a mobile in the same way. The shopkeeper went to his house with the help of the number of bike he had brought and got the money back from him . However, no one complained after receiving the money. This incident came to light after he was caught on Thursday. On the other hand, Dhanupali police said that the investigation is going on.
How Fake UPI ID Fraud Happens
Now criminals are using such fake UPI apps to cheat people. The app through which fraudsters scan the UPI QR code attached to the store. Then comes the details of the shopper. Then the price is paid. After hitting the payment, the successful transaction page opens like the original UPI transaction. By showing the fraudsters run away from the shopkeepers. Many shopkeepers leave the scam thinking that they will get the money once in a while. If a shopkeeper asks them to wait until the money arrives, the fraudsters immediately pretend to have some work and introduce themselves as senior officials. They also keep their fake ID. After seeing that, the shopkeeper gain hope and let the cheater go.
