Politics has been rocked across the state since the list was released at the district level today. Tensions are running high in both the ruling and opposition camps. In the village, there is a rift between hopefuls and their supporters. The ruling party’s legislature has been hit hardest. In many districts, there is a high level of hope for the post of sarpanch, which has led to dissatisfaction in most panchayats. Legislators have begun to press for amendments to the list. Even today, aspiring candidates from different districts have flocked to the MLAs’ residences in Bhubaneswar. Crowds of lawmakers were seen at home this evening. Multiple hopefuls for a single panchayat and zone have been scrambling to get the Suhaila reservation list ready for the legislature. In particular, there is a lot of hope for the post of sarpanch. All eyes are on the legislators in the panchayat in the coming days to persuade the dissidents. The next week is more important than a political one. Once the conservation picture becomes clear on the 16th and 16th, it will be clear what direction village politics is taking.
