Sambalpur: BJP Leader Meets SMC Commissioner; Demands Immediate Drainage Cleaning to Prevent Flooding

Sambalpur: With the monsoon season approaching, the BJP has expressed concerns about the uncleaned major drains in the city. Sudhir Ranjan Bohidar, a BJP leader, met with SMC Commissioner Vedbhushan to discuss the urgent need for cleaning the main drains: Haradjor, Dhobijor, and Tangana Nala. These drains are filled with debris and pose a risk of artificial flooding in the city.

The Dhobijor drain, extending approximately 6 kilometers, is a major drainage channel in the city but is currently filled with debris and blocked at many places. It has not been cleaned for a long time, and no one knows when it will be. Even though a contractor was assigned, no work has been done. This situation raises concerns about potential flooding during the upcoming monsoon season. In the past, areas like Mudipada, Bhangamunda, Talipada, Uparapada, and Housing Board Colony have been submerged due to blockages in the drain. Similarly, Chandannagar, Talvatapara, Gurudwara Pada, Durgapali, Kusumpada, Kanijuri, and Taalipada experience waterlogging every year due to the Mandaliajor drain.

Sudhir Ranjan Bohidar criticized the lack of action from the SMC and mentioned that the Commissioner has assured immediate work on these issues. Additionally, there are complaints about the slow progress of pond construction in the city. The incomplete work may wash away during the rains, causing inconvenience to residents. Bohidar urged the immediate completion of the ongoing projects to avoid further troubles.

Furthermore, he pointed out waterlogging issues on the Kumbharpada-Saliabagicha road even after slight rainfall and requested the construction of a higher culvert to alleviate the problem. Aditya Purohit and Rahul Gupta were also present during the meeting.
