Sambalpur: BSNL to Launch 4G Services in Sambalpur by August 15
Sambalpur: Following price increases by private telecom companies, many customers are switching to the state-owned BSNL. Seizing this opportunity, BSNL intends to launch 4G services in the Sambalpur telecom district, which includes Sambalpur, Redhakhol, Kuchinda, Jharsuguda, and Bargarh, within the next seven days, on August 15. According to the Sambalpur BSNL office, 4G services are currently available from five towers in the city.
Customer Shift to BSNL
As private companies continue to raise prices, the Ministry of Telecom and BSNL are attempting to attract new customers. In Sambalpur, where private companies have been providing 5G services for the past five years, BSNL has lagged, offering only 2G and 3G services. This has resulted in significant internet speed issues, with even low-resolution photo downloads taking up to five minutes and YouTube rendered virtually unusable. Frequent call drops also made conversations difficult, prompting many customers to seek private services.

Upgrading Infrastructure
BSNL is now committed to offering high-quality 4G services. The company has outsourced technical expertise and equipment for this upgrade. BSNL has teamed up with Tejas Networks for mobile network integration and TCS for 4G equipment supply. This equipment has been installed in various towers throughout Sambalpur’s telecom district over the last two months.
Current 4G Service Areas
4G services are already available at towers in Dhanupali, the BSNL GM office, Bareipali, the GM University Burla campus, and near Vimsar’s PG hostel. According to senior BSNL official Pramod Kumar Sahu, by August 15, 80% of the towers in the Sambalpur Municipal Corporation area will be 4G capable. Customers can then access high-speed internet by purchasing 4G SIM cards.
