Sambalpur: Cleanliness Scheme Fails in Sambalpur; City Filled with Garbage, People Becoming Frustrated
Sambalpur’s Cleanliness Plans Failing
Sambalpur: Sambalpur city has several cleanliness projects, but due to departmental negligence, these plans are failing. Instead of a clean city, garbage is piling up everywhere. Large amounts of money are being spent on posters promoting cleanliness, but the reality tells a different story.
The municipal corporation has arranged door-to-door garbage collection and hired sanitation workers. Some wards have even been assigned to private agencies. However, despite these efforts, garbage is still visible in many parts of the city. This situation raises serious questions about the effectiveness of the city’s sanitation efforts.
Waste Accumulation in Key Areas
In Ward No. 19, near the Fatak-Gopalmal road, garbage is lying on the streets. Residents complain that garbage collection vehicles do not come regularly. As a result, waste accumulates, creating a foul smell and making it difficult for people to commute. Stray cattle gather around the garbage, increasing the risk of accidents.

Despite repeated complaints to the municipal corporation, no significant improvement has been seen. Even in prominent areas of the city, regular cleaning is not happening, leading to widespread dissatisfaction among citizens.
Poor Drainage and Sanitation Management
The problem is not limited to solid waste; drains and sewage systems are also not being cleaned properly. The municipal corporation has a separate department for cleanliness, with supervisors, ward officers, and sanitation workers responsible for maintaining hygiene. Additionally, door-to-door garbage collection vehicles have been deployed.
However, despite these arrangements, the city remains dirty. This clearly indicates inefficiency in the system. Residents are now demanding immediate action from the municipal corporation to ensure proper waste management and make Sambalpur a cleaner city.
