Sambalpur: CM’s Visit During Nuakhai Leads to Canceled Leaves of Police Officers and Staff, Police Personnel Express Discontent
Sambalpur: Chief Minister Mohan Majhi will visit Sambalpur for the first time on September 8th, coinciding with the celebration of the important Western Odisha festival ‘Nuakhai.’ The Chief Minister will attend a farmers’ gathering and the ‘Nuakhai Bhetghat’ program during his visit. Various city organizations are organizing the ‘Nuakhai Bhetghat’ program.
Security Measures and Leave Cancellations
In light of the Chief Minister’s visit, the police administration has made extensive security arrangements. To ensure law and order during the event, the district administration has canceled the leave of police officers and staff. The Superintendent of Police (SP) has issued a strict directive stating that no one may take leave without prior approval. Those who are currently on leave have been instructed to return to work by September 6th.

Strict Warnings and Discontent
The SP has also warned that any officer or staff member who tries to avoid duty by claiming illness will face severe disciplinary action. Those who have already been granted leave can only take advantage of it after the Chief Minister’s visit ends on September 9th.
Local police officers and staff, particularly those from Western Odisha who celebrate ‘Nuakhai,’ have expressed discontent over this decision. They believe that the authorities may have assigned law enforcement duties during this time to police officers from other regions who do not follow ‘Nuakhai.’ Officers believe that bringing in personnel from other areas with previous experience working in Sambalpur and knowledge of the region could have resolved the problem.
