Sambalpur: Combating Jaundice Without Medicine; No Stock Now, Medicine to Arrive Soon, Says CDMO

Sambalpur faces jaundice crisis with 110 cases. Health dept screens but lacks medicine, forcing patients to private clinics. CDMO claims situation under control despite medicine shortage. Public questions admin’s effectiveness in managing outbreak.

Sambalpur: The number of jaundice cases has risen to 110, indicating a critical situation. However, the district health department has limited its services to screening without providing the necessary medications to identified patients. Many people are visiting private clinics and purchasing medicines from outside sources, raising concerns about how well the jaundice is being managed. Questions are being raised about the district administration and health department’s apparent neglect.

For the past two weeks, jaundice has been spreading throughout Sambalpur city. Areas such as Kumbharpada, Saliabagicha, Pensionpada, Dhobapada, and Kalibadi have become popular. The district health department is conducting door-to-door screening to identify infected individuals but has been unable to provide medications due to a lack of supplies. As a result, people are forced to purchase medicines from outside sources, and many infected people avoid visiting the Sambalpur District Headquarters Hospital (DHH). Those who do visit are only tested and then asked to purchase medications from elsewhere. It was reported that patients were advised to purchase medications from outside stores.

Dr. Sujata Rani Mishra, Chief District Medical Officer, stated that the district health department does not have any medicines to treat the city’s widespread jaundice (Hepatitis A). Orders have been placed to obtain medicines from outside sources, which will arrive shortly. She assured that the city’s jaundice situation was currently under control.

Meanwhile, despite the district administration’s claims that it is taking significant steps to combat jaundice, the reality has taken everyone by surprise. The lack of medicine, despite the dire situation, shows the administration’s inability to handle the crisis. People are wondering how the administration intends to combat jaundice without medications, or if this is just a show. The public’s growing dissatisfaction is due to a variety of issues.
