Sambalpur: Concerns Raised Over Lok Mahotsav Preparations in Sambalpur; Former Municipality Chairman Criticizes Mismanagement

Sambalpur: The Sambalpur Lok Mahotsav, a grand celebration of folk art and culture, is scheduled to take place in Sambalpur this January. The district administration recently held a coordination meeting to discuss the preparations for the event.

Concerns Raised by Former Mayor

Former Mayor Siddhartha Saha expressed concerns about the ongoing preparations. He pointed out that typically, the preparations for the Lok Mahotsav are well-organized and go smoothly. However, he described the current situation as unexpected and challenging. Saha stressed that the main goal of the festival is to promote folk arts and culture, allowing a platform for the recognition of Sambalpur’s ancient traditions.

Focus on Local Arts and Culture

The purpose of the festival is to foster the exchange of folk art and culture. It aims to honor and promote the ancient Sambalpuri culture and provide a cultural platform for the district’s art forms. Furthermore, the festival not only seeks to showcase various folk arts and culture from the state, but also aims to promote them at both regional and national levels.

Issues with Committee Appointments

However, the recent meeting revealed that organizers had included some individuals without any background in arts or culture in different committees. This raised concerns among the cultural enthusiasts of Sambalpur. They felt that such appointments might not do justice to the essence of the festival.

Emphasizing the Importance of Expertise

Additionally, Saha further emphasized that the Lok Mahotsav is a symbol of the region’s pride and self-respect. He believes that organizers should entrust only those with experience and knowledge in the fields of art and culture with the responsibility of organizing the event. He urged that organizers should give the responsibility to the right people, who have a genuine understanding of the local culture, to guide the festival’s success.
