Court of the State Women’s Commission: 7 resolutions in 42 cases

Sambalpur : Apart from domestic violence cases, not only economic but also sexual cyber crimes have been committed during the covid, said Dr Minati Behera, chairperson of the Odisha Women’s Commission. Dr. Behera visited Sambalpur and court camp. Efforts are being made on how women can live a better life in society and in the family. Of the nearly 100,000 cases filed with the commission in the state, 70,000 have been resolved, he said. The Women’s Commission is charged with trafficking in girls, cybercrime, female fetus murder, child marriage, sexual abuse, and workplace abuse.

A camp court was set up by the Odisha State Women’s Commission on Friday. There were eight cases in Jharsuguda, Bargarh, Devgarh and Sundergarh districts, including Sambalpur, while 42 cases were reported by individuals involved. Of these, 17 were reported by both parties, 20 by plaintiffs and only four by non-parties. On behalf of the Women’s Commission, Chairperson Dr Minati Behera was accompanied by Sabya Snehanjali Mohanty, Jalina Priyadarshini and SFO Vijaya Bar while Additional Superintendent of Police Amaresh Panda, DSW Gitanjali Mohapatra were present.

Commission Chairperson Dr Behera and his team visited the women’s and children’s desks of Niketan, Town Police Station and Dhanupali Police Station this morning.

She expressed satisfaction with all the provisions of the Women’s Prisoner Niketan, while said that some police stations needed to be more organized for women and children. “We have asked the SP for a report and we have visited the area,” said Dr Behera, referring to Mamita Meher’s murder in Mahalinga. The police department is investigating. He asserted that his confession had been obtained through torture.
