Cyber Fraud Strikes: Victimizing 200 People, Scam Spreads Across 3 States

Cyber fraud spreads its net in neighboring states of Andhra and Chhattisgarh with Odisha. Sitting in West Bengal, more than 200 people were trapped across the country. Using smartphones and the internet, he was repeatedly fooling the police. But in the end, he got caught in the plan of the Koraput police. Naresh Maiti (35), a cyber cheater from the Nandigram area of West Bengal, has been arrested by the police. The police are investigating the extent of the roots of this cyber-criminal.

Mansi Mishra, wife of Pradeep Kumar Patnaik, lodged a complaint at Borigumma police station on 27th December last year. She mentioned that she was a victim of cyber fraud. An advertisement was published in the newspaper that a company wanted men and women for a survey. Mansi contacted the number mentioned in the advertisement. She was told that candidates are required to install ATMs at Hitachi Company. For this, Mansi sent lakhs of rupees through the Phonepe app for asking for advance payment. Then he complained to the police station as he was unable to contact the said phone number.

The police formed a special team to nab cyber robbers outside the state. The police tracked down the number in the Phonepe app and the number published in the advertisement. As both the numbers were found to be active in West Bengal, the police team reached West Bengal and searched for the cyber robber. Arrested and brought to Koraput after getting the address. Police seized one Techno Spark mobile set, and two smartphones used by accused Naresh for fraud. In addition, a press conference featuring IPS officer Partha Jagadish Kashyap and cyber police station officer Bhavani Pradhan provided the primary details regarding the discovery of Rs. 2 lakh in cash.

The major thing is that a list of 2000 people has been found from the accused. This list contains personal information of people from different parts of the country. Similarly, the personal information of 10 people from Odisha is in the list. The police have frozen the accused’s bank account and are continuing to search. Based on the said list, around 200 people are believed to have been robbed by these cyber criminals.
