Sambalpur: Dangerous Sinkhole on Ghanteshwari Road Bridge, Locals Demand Urgent Repairs

Sambalpur: The main road connecting the famous Ghanteshwari Temple in Western Odisha has turned dangerous due to the deteriorating condition of a bridge near Chipilima. As the tourism season has already begun, visitors from within and outside the state are flocking to the temple. However, the worsening condition of this bridge has raised serious concerns.

Heavy Traffic and Construction Activities

The Chipilima Hydroelectric Project’s power canal and extended canal are currently undergoing repair and expansion work. Additionally, the construction of a sluice gate is in progress. These projects have led to the daily movement of heavy vehicles carrying construction materials across the bridge. Consequently, a large sinkhole has formed in the middle of the structure, creating a hazardous situation for commuters.

High Traffic Increases Risk

Every day, hundreds of buses, cars, and motorcycles pass over this bridge, further worsening its condition. Built in 2011 by the Public Works Department, the bridge now faces the risk of structural failure due to the sinkhole. This situation poses a significant threat of accidents.

Immediate Repair Demanded

Local residents and concerned citizens have demanded urgent repairs to the bridge to avoid potential disasters. With the increasing flow of tourists and regular commuters, ensuring the bridge’s safety has become a critical need.
