Sambalpur: On the 14th of this month, mother Indu and her daughter Payal were stabbed in Danipali, which falls under the jurisdiction of Sambalpur’s Ainthapali police station. Payal Das died on Tuesday, five days after the stabbing, from her injuries while undergoing treatment. Her mother, Indu, who had chest surgery, is still being treated in Burla. Payal suffered a deep wound near her lower abdomen and thigh. Despite surgery, the bleeding could not be controlled. She was moved from Burla’s main hospital to a nursing home in Sambalpur. Her blood pressure dropped, and her respiratory tract suffered damage. She passed away on Tuesday morning while still receiving treatment. Suraj Hathi (21), the perpetrator of the stabbing, has been arrested by police. Following Payal’s death, the police upgraded the charges to murder.

Notably, on Friday morning, while Indu and Payal were riding their scooter to their tailoring shop near the Mahamaya Temple, Suraj, who had been waiting for them, attacked them with a knife. After being stabbed multiple times, both fell to the ground. Locals rescued them, rushed them to the district headquarters hospital, and alerted the police.
