Sambalpur: Distressing Scene at Burla Vimsar Orthopedic Ward; Elderly Woman Carries Water to Third Floor, Sparks Concern Among Intellectuals

A Shocking Scene at the Orthopedic Ward

Sambalpur: In a distressing scene at the Orthopedic Department of Vimsar (Veer Surendra Sai Institute of Medical Sciences and Research), Burla, an elderly woman was seen struggling to carry a bucket of drinking water up to the third floor using the stairs. When asked, she said the ward had no drinking water available, so she was bringing it for her patient from the ground floor.

Lack of Basic Facilities

This situation clearly shows that even basic necessities like drinking water are not being provided to patients and their families in the hospital. Though Vimsar has been facing a water crisis for a long time, the authorities have not taken the issue seriously. As a result, attendants of patients are forced to collect and carry water on their own, even during the harsh summer.

Government Plans vs Ground Reality

Interestingly, while the state government has plans to upgrade Vimsar into a Super Specialty Medical College, and recently started airlifting patients from the hospital, the on-ground reality remains grim. Patients and their attendants still lack basic amenities, and not even drinking water is available inside the hospital, a deeply disappointing reality in a healthcare institution.

Public Concern Grows

Intellectuals and local residents have expressed serious concern, stating that Vimsar authorities have completely failed to solve this issue. They believe this is not just a service failure but also a sign of neglect towards patient welfare.
