Sambalpur: District Collector’s Innovative Approach at Public Grievance Hearing; Seats Elderly Woman on His Chair and Provides Pension

Sambalpur: Kuntala Mirdha, a resident of Kilasama in Dhankauda Block, Sambalpur, had long crossed the age of 60. Sadly, her husband had also passed away. To secure financial support, she had applied for a government pension but did not receive it despite repeated efforts.

Seeking Justice at the Public Hearing

Upon learning about a public grievance hearing in Dhankauda Block, Kuntala decided to present her complaint directly to District Magistrate (DM) Siddheshwar Baliram Bondar. She arrived at the event hoping to get her issue resolved.

DM’s Immediate Action

After listening to Kuntala’s plea, DM Bondar took immediate action. He approved her pending pension on the spot. In a rare and heartwarming gesture, he invited her to sit in his own chair while personally handing over the pension amount.

The event witnessed a unique moment where, instead of standing in long queues to present complaints to the DM, the elderly woman was seated in his chair and directly handed her pension benefits. The act drew praise from officials, staff, and the public present.

DM Siddheshwar Baliram Bondar, SMC Commissioner Vedbhushan, and Deputy District Magistrate Dr. Pushpanjali Panda attended the grievance hearing at the Dhankauda Block Office. The officials received 47 complaints during the event, including two applicants who sought assistance under the CM Relief Fund.
