Sambalpur: District Headquarters Hospital (DHH) Sets Up Sunstroke Ward with 6 Beds Amid Rising Heatwave Concerns

Temperature Rises Again
Sambalpur: After a brief drop due to recent Kalbaishakhi winds, the heatwave has returned in the past two days. In response, the Sambalpur District Headquarters Hospital (DHH) has prepared a dedicated ward for sunstroke patients.
Hospital Makes Arrangements for Emergency Cases
To deal with possible sunstroke cases, the hospital has arranged 6 beds across two air-conditioned rooms. Oxygen support is also available in these rooms. If any patient shows symptoms of sunstroke, they will receive immediate treatment and will be admitted to this ward without delay.

Facility Can Handle Six Patients at a Time
Currently, there are no sunstroke patients undergoing treatment. However, the setup can accommodate up to six patients at once. Dr. Sujatarani Mishra, the Chief District Medical Officer, stated that the sunstroke ward is fully functional from the beginning of the heatwave. All necessary medical facilities are available.
State Government Orders Preparedness Across Odisha
Since mid-April, the Odisha Government has instructed all district hospitals to stay prepared for sunstroke cases. This is especially important in Sambalpur city and western Odisha, where the temperature often crosses 40°C. Therefore, the risk of sunstroke remains high.
