Sambalpur: Dreaded Criminal Sanjeev Karali Injured in Police Encounter in Sambalpur; 80% Looted Goods Recovered from Kolkata

Sambalpur: On Saturday afternoon, notorious criminal Sanjeev Karali was injured in a police encounter near Rengali. Known for leading a series of heinous crimes across Sambalpur, Jharsuguda, and Sundargarh districts, Sanjeev has been linked to 23 serious cases, including robbery, theft, and fraud.

Loot of Electrical Equipment Worth Rs. 23 Lakhs

One of Sanjeev’s most recent crimes occurred on the night of May 21, when he and his gang looted electrical equipment worth Rs. 23 lakhs from a construction site in Charmal under Rairakhol block. The gang confined a security guard and eight workers at gunpoint, loaded the equipment onto two trucks and later sold them in Kolkata.

Police Crackdown on Gang Activities

Following investigations, the police arrested four gang members and recovered 80% of the stolen items. However, Sanjeev remained at large until recently. Acting on a tip-off about his whereabouts, Sambalpur police launched a swift operation near Rengali.

Police Encounter and Injuries

As the police attempted to apprehend Sanjeev, he fired two rounds at them. In self-defense, the police retaliated with three rounds, one of which hit Sanjeev’s right leg. He was subdued and taken to Rengali hospital for initial treatment before being shifted to Burla Vimsar for further care. His health condition is now stable, according to police officials.

Statement from Authorities

Addressing a press conference, Northern Range IG Himanshu Lal confirmed Sanjeev’s involvement in multiple criminal activities. SP Mukesh Bhamoo, also present, reiterated the police’s commitment to maintaining law and order in the region.

This operation marks a significant step in curbing organized crime in Sambalpur and neighboring areas.
