Sambalpur: Drug Addicts’ Den at Vimsar Medical College; Hundreds of Cough Syrup Bottles Found, Security Arrangements Questioned

Cough Syrup and Liquor Bottles Found Again

Sambalpur: After a brief pause, unsocial elements have once again started gathering inside the VIMSAR (Veer Surendra Sai Institute of Medical Sciences and Research) campus in Burla. Recently, hundreds of empty cough syrup and foreign liquor bottles were found near the old auditorium and examination hall, close to the college canteen. This incident clearly raises concerns about the effectiveness of the campus security system.

College Area Turns into Hangout for Unsocial Youths

Locals and students have alleged that the examination hall area has become a regular meeting spot for unsocial youths. Several shops near the hall remain open from morning to night, attracting young addicts from different parts of the town. These youths gather here openly and often indulge in drug and alcohol consumption.

Drug Use and Alcohol Consumption in the Open

According to reports, these youths consume cough syrup, ganja, and foreign liquor in a nearby open space. The area is now littered with hundreds of empty bottles, offering proof of repeated substance abuse. Despite being within the medical college campus and close to hostels and hospital buildings, such activities continue without restriction.

Rising Concerns Over Student Safety

Medical students and patients regularly use the same route, raising serious safety concerns. If any untoward incident occurs due to these addicts, it remains unclear who will be held responsible. The lack of proper surveillance and the inaction of security staff have sparked public outrage.

Negligence by Authorities Questioned

Despite the presence of multiple security personnel on campus, they have not taken any visible steps to stop these unsocial youths from gathering. Moreover, the college administration seems unaware or indifferent to the illegal activities happening right under their nose. This negligence has triggered public questions and demands for strict action and improved security within the campus.
