Election Violence in Kuchinda: Attack on BJP Workers, Case in Police Station in the Name of BJD State Secretary
KUCHINDA: Election violence has erupted in Sambalpur district ahead of the submission of nominations for the three-tier panchayat elections. A BJP activist, Cheru Nayak, was allegedly attacked by BJD state secretary and former MLA candidate on Sunday at Mahulpalli police station. Based on the affidavit of BJP activist Cheru Nayak, a resident of Tureiniktimal village, Mahulpalli police have registered a case No. 9/2022 under Section 341/294/323/506 of the IPC.
According to information received, BJP activist Cheru was returning home on a bike after forming a ward committee for panchayat elections in Kalijharan village of Kuntara panchayat on Friday morning. Bhubaneswar Kisan, BJD state secretary and 2014 MLA candidate from Tureiniktimal village at the head of Kalijharan village, suddenly stopped his bike and grabbed Cheru’s shirt collar and verbally abused him. He further added that he had attacked Cheru. The BJD leader in the upcoming panchayat elections in Bhubaneswar, Kisan Kuntara Panchayat, is said to have been involved in a scuffle over the campaign against him while campaigning for a Samiti member candidate. Cheru said he had been racially abused. However, when asked by Mahulpalli police officer Sushant Das about this, he said that no complaint had been received from Bhubaneswar Kishan till Sunday evening.
