Encounter in Jammu and Kashmir: Terrorists-Army Face-off, 4 Soldiers Martyred
An encounter between militants and the Indian Army in Jammu and Kashmir resulted in the deaths of four soldiers, including an officer. The clash occurred in the Desha area of Doda, where militants were hiding in the forest.
Initial Clash
According to reports, the encounter began when the Indian Army and Jammu and Kashmir Police launched a joint operation in response to intelligence about the presence of militants. The shooting began around 9 p.m. on Monday. Despite their efforts, four soldiers died from their injuries.
Escalation in Violence
This incident follows a recent attack in Kathua, in which militants ambushed an army vehicle, killing five soldiers and injuring five more. The militants attacked while the Indian Army’s 9 Corps patrolled the Machhedi area. They fired grenades and bullets, taking advantage of the darkness to flee to the nearby forest.

Surge in Attacks
This is the seventh militant attack in the Jammu region this year. Previous attacks in June included an assault on a joint checkpoint in Chathargala, which injured six security personnel, and an altercation in Gandho that injured a police officer. These attacks highlight the troubling spread of militancy from Poonch and Rajouri districts to Jammu.
Conclusion
The resurgence of militancy in Jammu and Kashmir is concerning, particularly given that the region was relatively free of such activities just a few years ago. 48 soldiers have been killed in the Jammu region in the last 32 months, emphasizing the importance of ongoing vigilance and robust counter-terrorism operations.
