Sambalpur: The Sambalpur Municipal Corporation began evicting street vendors from the road that runs from Municipality Square to Ashapali School today. The eviction process will continue. According to the Municipal Corporation, vendors on other major roads will be evicted. A dedicated team led by Enforcement Officer Srinivas Mirdha took part in the eviction process.
For many years, street vendors have been selling various items, starting from food to other goods, on both sides of the main roads such as Municipality Square, Golbazar Square, Laxmi Talkies Square, and near Ashapali School. Additionally, some places under the flyover are being used for parking vehicles. This situation has been causing problems for both pedestrians and drivers, often leading to accidents. The Municipal Corporation has stated that this eviction process has begun to address these issues. The evicted street vendors will be relocated to the vending zones constructed near Ram Sagar Bandh.

Despite the Municipal Corporation’s construction of vending zones throughout the city, vendors have not expressed an interest in operating their businesses there. They have complained about the lack of necessary facilities for both customers and vendors in these vending areas. As a result, the majority of these vending areas remain vacant.
Similarly, the old government bus stand has hosted a daily market since the COVID-19 outbreak, resulting in a reduction in space. As a result, only a few city and OSRTC buses operate from there. Due to a lack of space, there are no proper facilities for passengers arriving at the bus stand. Inadequate seating, a lack of restrooms, and a lack of drinking water have all caused significant inconvenience to passengers. There is a growing call for the Sambalpur Municipal Corporation to take immediate action to address these concerns.
