Sambalpur: Five Arrested in Thelkopada Group Murder, Including Father and Son; Main Accused Vinod Captured by RPF from Train

Sambalpur: Police in Sambalpur have arrested five individuals, including a father and son, in connection with the recent group murder that took place last Saturday in the Thelkopada area. This brutal act occurred in broad daylight, shocking the local community.

Incident Details and Investigation Progress

According to SDPO Tufan Bagh, the incident unfolded on a busy street in Thelkopada on the 9th. The victim, Soni Shandha (33), was fatally attacked by several individuals. Following a complaint, the police immediately registered a case and began an investigation. However, the suspects fled, and police efforts over the last two days focused on tracking them down. Today, the police apprehended Vinod Behera (44), his son Aman Behera (22), Sahil Behera (27), Dileswar Banchhor (28), and Beda Sendriya (32). All suspects will be presented in court tomorrow. The police have also seized large knives and metal rods used in the murder.

Background of the Dispute and Motive for Murder

It is notable that last Saturday morning, Soni Shandha had a dispute with Chaman Behera, leading him to attack Chaman with a sharp weapon, resulting in injuries. Seeking revenge, Chaman’s relatives went after Soni. Around 1:30 PM, they encountered Soni in Thelkopada, leading to a heated altercation and a coordinated attack. Attempting to escape, Soni was attacked again on the busy Mudipada-Main District Hospital road, where he fell. The group continued to assault him with sharp weapons, ultimately leading to his death.

Dramatic Capture of Main Accused Vinod Behera

Today, Rourkela Railway Police Force (RPF) apprehended Vinod Behera in a dramatic turn of events. He was attempting to escape the state on the Azad Hind Express when RPF received a tip-off from the Plant Site Police Station that the suspects were hiding in the Rourkela area. RPF officers stationed themselves at the Rourkela station and captured Vinod in a general compartment of the train. After verifying his identity through photos sent by Sambalpur Police, RPF detained him and later handed him over to state police. Soon after, a police team from Sambalpur arrived and took Vinod into custody for further investigation.
