Sambalpur: From Campus to Classroom; GM University Steps Up to Improve Primary Education
Sambalpur: GM University has taken the initiative to improve the educational system at Mudipada Primary School. B.Ed students from the university have started volunteering as teachers to assist the children.
Collaborative Effort
Prof. N. Nagaraju, the university’s Vice-Chancellor, implemented this measure in response to a proposal from the alumni association. Under the supervision of Prof. Partha Sarathi Mallik, Head of the Department of Education and Research, four B.Ed students—Ravikant Pradhan, Shubhranshu Shubhrajyoti Behera, and Swagatika Dwivedi—began teaching at the school today.

Welcoming the Volunteers
During the event, the alumni association’s General Secretary, journalist Prafulla Kumar Dash, Vice President Kartik Prasad Bohidar, Joint Secretary Raj Kishor Boxi, Treasurer Ranjubala Pattnaik, CRCC Ranjita Seth, Head Teacher Sandhyarani Dixit, and guest teacher Jyotirmayi Behera welcomed the GMU volunteers with gifts.
Addressing Teacher Shortages
Previously, the school had five teachers for 140 students in five grades. However, after two teachers retired in the last two months, only three teachers remain. The school is currently preparing to celebrate its 75th anniversary, the Platinum Jubilee. Given the circumstances at the school, the alumni association informed the education department officials of the issues. As no action was taken, the association sought alternative solutions, drawing the attention of GM University’s Vice-Chancellor and proposing the involvement of B.Ed students as volunteer teachers.
