Sambalpur: Government Funds Wasted in Bareipali Industrial Area; Utility Departments Dig Up Newly Built Road Without Intimation

Newly Constructed Road Dug Up Within a Month

Sambalpur: In the Bareipali Industrial Area, IDCO (Odisha Industrial Infrastructure Development Corporation) spent lakhs of rupees on constructing a new concrete road. However, within just a month, the road has been dug up at more than four places. Shockingly, no one knows which department is responsible for this digging.

Locals have raised questions if the road was meant to be dug up so soon, why was so much money wasted on its construction in the first place?

IDCO Officials Express Concern

According to IDCO officials, they were not informed by any department or individual about the road being opened. They mentioned that many utility departments often carry out digging work without permission. Even when IDCO officers oppose it, these departments bypass them and label IDCO as anti-development.

The officials questioned why no one informed them beforehand about laying pipelines. If they had been told in advance, they could have delayed the construction or completed it after the pipe work. Instead, the departments dug up the newly built road, causing damage. Now, IDCO is unaware of who dug what and where.

They also expressed frustration, saying, “This is nothing but misuse of public money from the government treasury. Yet, no one is paying attention.”

Road Was Built to Solve Long-Standing Problems

Last month, a proper concrete road and drainage system was built in Bareipali Industrial Estate. Since the area is a business hub, roads were in poor shape. During the rainy season, mud and stagnant water made movement difficult. Hence, concrete road work was undertaken after nearly a year of delay.

However, even though the road was neglected for a long time, no department raised any concern about pipeline work. But now, just after the road was concreted, parts of it have been dug up again causing serious loss and inconvenience.

Due to poor coordination among government departments, the newly built road has been damaged. Public money has gone to waste, and there is still no accountability for who is responsible.
