Sambalpur: In Sambalpur, the immersion of Ganesh Puja idols typically features music, lights, and various cultural performances. Today, however, the city witnessed a one-of-a-kind procession that focused on a powerful message rather than the typical fanfare. Despite the lack of loud DJs or cultural performances, hundreds of people showed up to participate.

Protest Against Women’s Oppression

This year, the theme of the Ganesh Puja pandal in Hatapada, organized by the Veer Bajrang Sangh, centered on protesting violence against women. As part of the immersion procession, women dressed as warriors marched, holding placards condemning the atrocities faced by women in society. Each placard demanded an end to violence against women and called for justice.

A Message of Justice for Women

All participants carried national flags and placards with slogans condemning women’s abuse. The procession also highlighted a recent tragic case involving a medical student in Kolkata who suffered abuse, raising awareness about women’s struggles for justice and dignity. Organizers depicted the Ganesh idol as a judge, sending a clear message that perpetrators of violence against women will receive no forgiveness. The “court of Ganesh” proclaimed a strong verdict: society must respect women, and justice must prevail in all cases of abuse and oppression.

A Focus on Women’s Rights and Justice

This year’s immersion procession in Hatapada was dedicated to promoting women’s honor, fighting for justice, and protesting against the continued oppression of women. The unique approach drew widespread attention, leaving a lasting impact on the crowd and reinforcing the call for equality and safety for women in society.
