AAP’s Allegations Against the BJP
The AAP has responded strongly to the arrest, accusing the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) of using the ED to target its leaders. According to the AAP, the arrest is part of a larger campaign to harass and disrupt their party members’ activities. The party claims that these actions are politically motivated and aimed at weakening the organization.
Khan’s Statement
In a video posted on ‘X’ (formerly Twitter), Amanatullah Khan claimed that he and his fellow AAP leaders are unfairly targeted. He claimed that the charges against him were made up with the intention of destroying the party. Khan questioned whether sincerely serving the people had become a crime.
Background of the Case
Amanatullah Khan is not only an MLA, but also the Chairman of the Delhi Waqf Board. During his tenure, 32 appointments were made, allegedly in violation of government regulations. This sparked controversy, particularly after the board’s then-CEO issued a memorandum opposing the illegal appointments. Furthermore, Khan has been accused of leasing several Waqf properties illegally.
The situation is still developing, with both sides exchanging accusations, reflecting the region’s ongoing political tensions.
