Hirakud Rope-way Service had been shut down for indefinite period even in this tourist season
Sambalpur: The Rope-Way service in Hirakud has just become a joke. Tourists are returning frustrated with locals are expressing dissatisfaction with the arbitrary ropeway even in this tourist season. Asked about the incident Mr. Damodar, who was in charge of the ropeway, said that the ropeway could not be maintained due to the lack of arrears payment. Despite repeated letters to SMC and Odisha Construction Company within three months, the agency said the ropeway had been shut down for months due to a lack of response.
Hirakud is an important tourist destination in Sambalpur district. Tourists had to climb the minaret to visit the Hirakud Dam. The Rope-Way service was designed to provide a variety of fun to the tourists.
The Rope-way was initially operated by the Hirakud River Dam Authority, but was later taken over by the Sambalpur Metropolitan Corporation. The revenue generated from this went to the SMC Pantry.
The ropeway has been shut down for three months. But as the rope-wrapped rope swings, required urgent change .So Mr.Damodar wrote repeated letters to the Sambalpur Metropolitan Corporation, but to no avail. After two months of waiting, the company shut it down indefinitely, as the Ropeway was in danger. A notice was issued to tourists at the Jawaharlal Nehru Gate, saying that the ropeway service was closed for management to cover up the SMC’s guilt.
