Sambalpur: Illegal Operations of KC Palace Exposed; Hotel’s Sewage Found in Public Drain, Notice Issued

Sambalpur: The Pollution Control Board has issued a show cause notice to the Panchgachhia-based KC Palace Hotel. Authorities issued the notice after they discovered that the hotel was discharging its sewage water into a public drain without proper treatment. The board’s report stated that the hotel must respond to the notice within 21 days.

Operating Illegally for 4 Years

Surprisingly, despite operating illegally for the previous four years, action had just recently been taken against the hotel. According to sources, the KC Palace Hotel, which has 40 rooms, discharges around 7,000 liters of sewage water, 3,000 liters of dirty water, and 10 kg of solid waste per day. The Pollution Control Board’s regulations require that this waste undergo proper treatment through an STP (Sewage Treatment Plant) before SMC discharges it into the public drain.

STP Non-Operational

KC Palace does have an STP, but it has been inoperable, resulting in untreated sewage water being discharged directly into the public drain. Representatives from the Pollution Control Board recently visited the hotel and observed the violation. The board’s report also stated that the hotel’s operating license had expired on March 3, 2020. However, the hotel had not applied for renewal or paid the CTO fee for four years. On July 27, this year, the hotel finally applied for renewal online, but it still owes the state government lakhs of rupees.
