Sambalpur: Jagannath Colony-Sakhipada Road Underpass; A Safe Haven for Criminals, Residents Cry for Help

No Patrolling at Night
Frequent Thefts Reported
Stones Thrown at Express Trains

Sambalpur: As soon as darkness falls, Jagannath Colony-Sakhipada Road becomes a magnet for thieves. They steal mobile phones and cash from people passing through the area. The road is between the Ainthapali and Dhanupali police stations, so there is no regular patrolling or visible police presence. As a result, criminals are exploiting the situation and looting people in the area.

Last evening, a thief stole a man’s phone and fled to the railway underpass, disappearing into the shadows.

Regular Thefts Reported Near the Railway Underpass

This isn’t an isolated incident. Several complaints have been filed about frequent thefts near the railway underpass on Jagannath Colony-Sakhipada Road. Local residents have expressed their concern that the lack of police action has encouraged the criminals.

Attacks on Express Trains

Not only are people being targeted, but express trains are also at risk. Criminals are hurling stones and bricks at passing trains. This distressing situation has already been reported to the Railway Police. For a few days, the railway police patrolled regularly, but when the patrolling stopped, the criminals resumed their activities.

Waterlogging and Lack of Proper Surveillance Aid Criminals

The underpass near the railway bridge is also a major source of concern due to frequent waterlogging. Vehicles passing through the area must slow down, making it easier for thieves to target them. Criminals take advantage of this opportunity to stop vehicles, threaten passengers, and steal from them.

Demand for Regular Patrolling

Residents have demanded regular police patrols, particularly in the evenings and at night, to combat the rising thefts. They believe that a stronger police presence will deter criminals from operating in the area.

A local police official from Sambalpur assured, “We are regularly catching criminals. However, more focus will be given to this area, and instructions have been issued to the Railway Police for regular patrolling near the railway underpass.”
