Sambalpur: Late-Night 108 Ambulance Accident in Sambalpur, Helper Killed, Driver and Technician Injured

Sambalpur: A tragic accident involving a 108 ambulance happened late at night near the Jujumura petrol pump in Sambalpur. The ambulance collided with a broken-down heavy vehicle (Highway truck) on the road. The collision was so severe that emergency personnel had to cut the front of the ambulance to retrieve the body of the helper, Niranjan Pradhan (38), who died tragically on the scene. The driver, Sudarshan Matari, and the technician, Soumyaranjan Sahu, were both injured but survived and were taken to a hospital in Burla for treatment. Following initial care, both were discharged.

Ambulance Returns, Meets with an Accident

According to reports, the accident occurred late at night (around 12:45 a.m.) as the 108 ambulance was returning to Jujumura from dropping off a patient at the district hospital. On its way back, the ambulance collided with a broken-down heavy vehicle near the Jujumura petrol pump, which was stranded on the highway. The driver and technician received minor injuries but survived the accident. However, Niranjan Pradhan, a Kukudapada Sindurapank helper, died at the scene as a result of the impact.

Immediate Rescue Operations

The accident was so severe that Niranjan’s body became trapped in the ambulance. Firefighters responded to the scene, cut open the vehicle, and recovered Niranjan’s body. His remains were transported to Burla Hospital for an autopsy.

Family Tragedy

Niranjan Pradhan, who was married only two years ago, leaves behind a wife who is six months pregnant. Following the post-mortem, the body was handed over to the family. Police have opened a case and are investigating the accident.

Official Reaction

The incident drew the attention of the Chief District Medical Officer (CDMO), Dr. Sujata Rani Mishra, who confirmed the fatal accident involving the 108 ambulance and expressed condolences for the loss of the ambulance attendant.
