Sambalpur: Late-Night Surprise Raid in Sambalpur Circle Jail; Large Quantity of Drugs Seized, Tobacco Smuggled in Tennis Balls

Sambalpur: Drugs and tobacco are being smuggled into the jail hidden inside tennis balls. Last night, after a surprise raid at the Sambalpur Circle Jail, Executive Magistrate Swadhin Behera expressed concern. He revealed that tennis balls filled with tobacco and drugs were thrown into the jail during the day, and inmates were collecting these items from the balls.

Surprise Raid in the Middle of the Night

In the late hours of last night, the police conducted a sudden raid at the Sambalpur Circle Jail. During this time, most of the inmates were asleep. The police seized a significant amount of drugs during the raid. Magistrate Swadhin Behera was present throughout the operation, which took place under his supervision.

Large Quantity of Drugs Seized

The raid revealed that inmates were receiving drugs and tobacco through tennis balls thrown into the jail premises. These items, including gutka, khaini, marijuana, and lighters, were seized from the inmates.

Coordinated Effort by Police Teams

Additional SP Haresh Chandra Pandey, along with police teams and Sadar SDPO, participated in the raid. It lasted for almost three hours.

Over 577 Inmates in the Jail

Currently, there are 577 inmates across 22 wards in the Sambalpur Circle Jail. According to sources, this was the first such raid after many years.
