Sambalpur: Law and Order Chaos in Khetrajpur; Two Vehicles Burned Over Refusal to Pay Ganesh Puja Donation

Sambalpur: The law and order situation in Khetrajpur, Sambalpur, has been shaken by a disturbing incident involving extortion and arson. Despite ongoing thefts, looting, and robberies during daylight hours, a new wave of crime has emerged—this time over a refusal to make a Ganesh Puja donation.

Two Vehicles were Burned

Jayant Kumar Meher of Durgapali filed a complaint with the Khetrajpur police station. He alleged that some individuals set fire to two of his vehicles after his family refused to contribute to a Ganesh Puja donation. The accused, enraged by the refusal, allegedly returned late at night to burn down Meher’s Honda bike and the battery-powered vehicle parked in front of his house. In addition, they set fire to a small bicycle and several cement bags.

Refusal to Pay Donation Leads to Retaliation

According to Meher, the incident began when someone approached his family asking for a Ganesh Puja donation. His father declined the request, which resulted in a heated argument. In retaliation, the donation collectors returned at night and set fire to the vehicles and other materials.

Immediate Response by the Fire Department

The family found the fire at 4 a.m. the next morning. They quickly called the fire department for help. When help came, the fire had already destroyed the two vehicles completely. It also burned other things they owned. Fortunately, the fire department was able to extinguish the flames, preventing further damage, though the family feared for their lives.
