Sambalpur: Mahanadi Viewpoint Turns into Gathering Hub for Antisocialists; Police Inaction Despite Complaints

Police Inaction Despite Complaints

Sambalpur: The newly constructed Mahanadi Viewpoint, part of the Samaleswari Project, has unfortunately become a gathering spot for antisocial activities. Individuals are reportedly engaging in frequent gatherings here, involving the use of illegal drugs, marijuana, and alcohol. Reports indicate that some of these individuals have involved themselves in criminal activities. Though people have made complaints to the Khetrajpur police station, the police have not taken any significant action so far.

Crowds and Tourism Increase at Samaleshwari Temple

Since the construction of the Samaleswari Project, the Samalei Temple has been attracting larger crowds, and the number of tourists visiting the area has grown. This increase in visitors has also helped boost the local economy, with more people engaging in business activities around the temple. However, this influx of people has also attracted troublemakers who disrupt the peaceful environment.

Problematic Gatherings and Their Impact on Tourists

Under the Mahanadi Viewpoint, individuals regularly gather with liquor, narcotic tablets, and marijuana. Some even set up food gatherings in the area, creating an uncomfortable environment for tourists and devotees. Although the temple trust board is aware of the situation and has verbally informed the Khetrajpur police station, there has been no visible action from the authorities.

Local Residents Demand Action

A local resident expressed concern about the increase in visitors to the Samaleswari Temple. While the atmosphere is inviting and benefits local businesses, antisocial gatherings in the area make visiting difficult. Residents have called for immediate action against those involved in these illegal activities in order to restore peace and safety to the area.

Complaints Mount Against Police Inaction

There are continuous complaints about the Khetrajpur police station’s lack of action. Reports suggest that while illegal liquor is openly sold near the police station, drugs and narcotic tablets are also easily available in nearby areas. Antisocial elements gather in vacant spots along the Mahanadi riverbed, consuming these substances without fear of police intervention.

Police Assurances

Sambalpur ASP Haresh Chandra Pandey mentioned that he had not known about the complaints before but assured that he would take strict actions against those engaging in antisocial activities to address the community’s concerns effectively.
