Sambalpur: Meat Market at Professor Colony in Sambalpur to be Operational Soon; 24 Vendors Will Get Space

Old Market Demolished, New Complex Planned

Sambalpur: A new meat market will soon start operating in Professor Colony, Sambalpur. Although a clean meat complex was built here over seven years ago, it was never made operational. To make this market functional, authorities recently demolished 40 shops, including 22 owned by local families.

New Market Complex on the Way

Sushant Sahu, the promotion officer of SMC, announced that a new market complex would be constructed soon. The plan is to provide a proper space for meat sellers, ensuring hygiene and convenience for both buyers and sellers.

Unfulfilled Promises for Junior College Construction

Earlier, the Sambalpur district administration had announced the construction of a GM Junior College in Professor Colony. Despite repeated demands from local residents, no action was taken. Now, instead of the college, SMC has decided to build two market complexes in the area.

Engineering Team Prepares Market Layout

Under the leadership of Commissioner Vedbhusan, an engineering team has already inspected the site and finalized the layout. The team has identified the lack of a dedicated meat market between Fatak and Ainthapali, forcing vendors to sell meat and fish on the roadside. This creates inconvenience for both sellers and customers.

Existing Meat Complex Finally Ready for Use

Previously, SMC built a dedicated meat complex, but it was never made operational. Now, the authorities have decided to put it to use. As part of this plan, 24 meat vendors from Fatak to Ainthapali have been identified and will soon start selling their products from this complex. The move aims to create a cleaner environment and improve business conditions for vendors.

Additional Market Complex to House More Shops

Another market complex, with space for 30 shops, is also under construction. Unlike the meat market, this new facility will accommodate shops selling a variety of goods. Non-food vendors, whose shops were demolished, will be relocated to this complex.

Professor Colony Gets a Cleanup

The area around Professor Colony has been cleaned up as part of this initiative. Previously, a vegetable market operated there, but in 2018, it was relocated to Shantinagar. However, some vendors continued selling vegetables in the old location. Now, SMC has requested all vendors to move to Shantinagar.

Concerns Among Displaced Vendors

While meat sellers have been relocated, shopkeepers selling other goods are worried about their future. After their shops were demolished, they now face uncertainty about where they will continue their businesses.
