Sambalpur: Mismanagement in Road Construction Works; Potholes Appear Within a Month of Repairs, Public Frustrated

Sambalpur: Despite spending lakhs of rupees on road repairs, the problems persist. Just days after a road is repaired, potholes appear again. While one side of a road is being built, another side is being dug up. The lack of coordination between departments creates trouble for the public. Even after complaints, authorities fail to take immediate action. As a result, people are forced to silently endure these difficulties. This issue affects not just one or two roads but many across the city.
A Dangerous Pothole Near Railway Nagar Entrance
Residents complain about a massive pothole near the entrance of Railway Nagar on the Thakurpada-Panchagochhia road. A water pipeline runs nearby, increasing the risk of accidents. Since the road is already narrow, traffic congestion is common. Thousands of students from schools like Kendriya Vidyalaya and Guru Nanak School, as well as patients visiting private clinics, use this road daily. Although the road was newly built a year ago, it has already developed large potholes, leading to frequent accidents. Locals are demanding urgent repairs.

Construction Delays on Bhutapada-Dhankauda Road
For years, construction work on the Bhutapada-Dhankauda road has been ongoing. The warehousing department digs up the road shortly after workers complete it to lay pipeline lines. This creates major problems for commuters. The Public Works Department (PWD) recently repaired the road near the B.Ed hostel, but now workers are digging up another section near the stadium for pipeline work. This cycle of construction and digging wastes public funds, as money spent on repairs goes down the drain.
Lack of Coordination Wastes Resources
Despite authorities emphasizing inter-departmental coordination, no meetings have been held to address the issue. The public is demanding immediate action to ensure effective planning and proper utilization of funds. Attempts to contact PWD officials for a response have been unsuccessful.
