Delayed Construction and Missed Expectations
The Municipal Corporation conceptualized the project in 2014-15 and began construction after two years. Officials completed the first phase with 40 shops last year and ceremonially opened it. Despite this, none of the shops have opened, calling into question the project’s effectiveness and funding allocation.
Concerns Over Future Developments
Locals eagerly await the commencement of the second phase of the complex’s construction, which remains uncertain. The failure to make the first phase operational has only amplified doubts about the project’s future. Parking problems in the Golbazar area persist, inconveniencing both shopkeepers and visitors alike.
Call for Action from SMC
When contacted, Sambalpur Municipal Corporation (SMC) Commissioner Shankar Sahu assured that steps would be taken to make the complex functional soon. Local intellectuals and residents demand immediate action from SMC to ensure the project fulfills its intended purpose of solving traffic and parking issues in the city center.
