New Government Directive: All Government Employees Mandatory to Wear Sambalpuri Attire Every Monday
In a move to promote the traditional Sambalpuri handloom industry, the state government has taken a significant step. Government employees across the western state have been advised to wear Sambalpuri handloom clothes to the office once a week.
The Revenue Divisional Commissioner (RDC), Shrikant Prusty, has written to all the District Magistrates under the Sambalpur Revenue Division, instructing them to implement this initiative. Employees have been asked to come to work dressed in Sambalpuri attire every Monday.
This decision by the government is being welcomed as a positive step towards preserving the rich heritage and supporting the local weavers and artisans. Sambalpuri handloom products are in high demand, not only within the country but also internationally. The government has been actively supporting weavers, artisans, and traders through various schemes, leading to an increase in the number of weavers.
By encouraging government employees to wear handloom clothes once a week, it is expected that the demand and sales of Sambalpuri handloom products will further increase. This initiative aims to promote the use of traditional handloom techniques and keep the rich cultural tradition alive.
Moreover, it is believed that this move will not only enhance the quality of Sambalpuri handloom products but also spread awareness about them. By increasing the use of handloom and handloom fabrics, the market position of the handloom industry will be further strengthened.
Sambalpuri handloom products are not limited to clothing; they also include household items like curtains, bed sheets, tablecloths, lungis, faltas, and rugs. The state government’s advice to government employees to wear handwoven clothes and sarees is a step towards promoting heritage, culture, art, architecture, and craftsmanship at an individual level.
In recent times, Sambalpuri handloom products have gained popularity, with MPs, MLAs, ministers, and entrepreneurs embracing traditional designs adapted to modern styles. The advanced craftsmanship of Sambalpuri weavers is being recognized and celebrated, especially during festivals like Nuakhai and weddings.
