Sambalpur: Newborn Baby Stolen from Maternity Ward at Vimsar; Incident Captured on CCTV, Police Investigation Underway

Sambalpur: In a shocking incident at Vimsar, a newborn was stolen from the maternity ward by an unidentified woman. The woman gradually gained the trust of the newborn’s family over three days by pretending to be a well-wisher. CCTV footage captured her movements, and police have formed multiple teams to investigate the case.

Suspicious Behavior Before the Theft

The unidentified woman first approached the family by pretending to know someone admitted to the hospital. Over the next three days, she visited the family regularly, consoled them, and held the newborn often. She cleverly gained their confidence through kind gestures and sweet conversations. However, on the day of the incident, she took the newborn in her arms under the pretext of playing with the child and vanished.

Discovery of the Theft

The family realized the child was missing after the woman disappeared. After an unsuccessful search, they reported the matter to the hospital authorities and later filed a complaint at Burla Police Station. Police immediately began an investigation, and multiple teams are now searching for the child.

Police and Hospital on High Alert

Authorities at Vimsar, along with Burla police, have intensified their search operations. Checkpoints have been set up in and around the city. CCTV footage from the hospital reveals the woman carrying the baby out of the building. The footage has been seized, and investigators are working to identify the suspect.

Background of the Family

The stolen newborn belongs to Mohan Das from Badesajapali village, under Basna police station in Mahasamund district of Chhattisgarh. Mohan had initially admitted his wife to a local hospital in Bargarh but later shifted her to Vimsar for better care. His wife delivered a baby boy on October 25. The mysterious woman befriended Mohan’s family, including his wife and sister-in-law, during their stay in the hospital.

Suspicions of a Larger Child Trafficking Racket

The incident has raised suspicions about an organized child trafficking racket operating in the area. Investigators are now probing the woman’s identity and her intentions. Mohan’s family admitted that the woman stayed close to them and even guided them about hospital procedures. However, her real motives remain unknown.

Challenges Ahead for the Police

Despite intense search efforts, the stolen newborn remains untraced. The police consider this case a significant challenge due to the clever tactics used by the woman. Police teams from Burla, Hirakud, and Sambalpur police stations, along with women’s police, are actively investigating.

As of now, the child has not been located, and the police are determined to crack the case and reunite the baby with the family.
