Sambalpur: On November 26, a shocking incident of a newborn baby being stolen from Vimsar (Veer Surendra Sai Institute of Medical Sciences and Research) sparked serious concerns about the hospital’s security arrangements. Despite a monthly expenditure of Rs. 60 lakh on security services, such incidents continue to occur, leading the city’s intellectual community to demand the immediate dismissal of the security agency.

14 Years of Controversial Service

For the past 14 years, the same security agency has been responsible for Vimsar’s security. However, dissatisfaction with their performance is growing stronger. The director in charge of Vimsar, Professor Bhabagrahi Rath, expressed deep frustration, stating that the agency often disregards instructions and operates arbitrarily. He assured that action would be taken against the agency for its negligence.

Mobile Phones Over Duty: Negligence Exposed

According to reports, three security guards and one supervisor were distracted by their mobile phones during the baby theft. The staff did not stop the woman carrying the newborn out of the hospital or question her intentions. This negligence has sparked widespread criticism and outrage.

Security Agency’s Troubled History

The agency has a history of controversies, including allegations of conflicts with medical students and other unprofessional behavior. Vimsar authorities recommended replacing the agency, but nobody took concrete action.

Director Takes Concerns to the State Health Secretary

Professor Rath recently met with the Health Secretary in Bhubaneswar to discuss the hospital’s requirements and ongoing issues, including this incident. They also deliberated on the much-anticipated establishment of a super-specialty department at Vimsar.

Public Demands Immediate Action

With this latest incident exposing severe lapses, residents of Burla and concerned citizens are now calling for the immediate termination of the controversial security agency. Many believe the hospital administration must act decisively and restore public trust in Vimsar’s security measures.
