Nita Ambani Purchases Sambalpuri Bandhakala Sarees and Places Additional Orders

Nita Ambani, accompanied by Reliance Industries chief Mukesh Ambani, expressed deep admiration for Sambalpuri Bandhkala during a recent visit to Mumbai’s Swadesh Mela. The couple showed significant love for traditional art forms, demonstrating their appreciation for India’s rich cultural legacy.

The Meher couple, Makardhwaj Meher and Sukanti Meher of Barpali, Odisha, showed Sambalpuri textiles that piqued their interest. The Meher couple, who recently won the National Award for Bandhakala Art, displayed their superb craftsmanship through a variety of products during the event.

During the Nita-Mukesh Ambani Cultural Center fair on the 28th evening, Nita Ambani had a lengthy conversation with the Meher couple about Sambalwari textiles. Nita Ambani was impressed with their talent and ordered two Saptapar Sambalpuri sarees and paper bandhakala sarees, as well as orders two more.

In addition to her purchases, the Meher couple gave Nita Ambani a wall hanging depicting idols of Jagannath, Balabhadra, and Subhadra, highlighting Odisha’s cultural diversity.

During their conversation, Sukanti Meher highlighted the challenges faced by the weavers and emphasized the importance of their upliftment through the sale of textile art materials. Nita Ambani was moved by their suffering and encouraged to consider steps to help Odisha’s weavers.

The participation of Mumbai Swadesh Mela editor Rohit Dhawan highlighted the event’s importance in promoting traditional textiles, handlooms, and handicrafts from several Indian states.
