Auspicious Date and Time Finalized for Nuakhai
Sambalpur: Nuakhai, a popular and significant folk festival in Western Odisha, will take place on September 8 this year. The Brahmandap Pandit Mahasabha, which included scholars, astrologers, and experts, decided on the festival’s auspicious timing today. This timing is based on Goddess Samaleswari’s zodiac and nakshatra.
Goddess Samaleswari will receive the first Nabanna Offering. The Brahmandap Pandit Mahasabha has decided to hold the festival on Bhadrapada Shukla Paksha Panchami Tithi. Devotees will make the first offering of Nabanna (new rice) to Goddess Samaleswari at the Samaleswari Temple between 9:12 and 9:27 a.m. on September 8. After this, temples throughout Western Odisha will observe the festival.

Annual Ritual in Brahmandap Temple The decision on Nuakhai timing is made annually at the Brahmandap Temple in Jhaduapada. This year’s meeting took place one day after Shri Krishna Janmashtami. The festival’s timing is traditionally determined by astrological calculations, and the people of the region eagerly await it.
Scholars and experts are in attendance. Prominent scholars and experts attended today’s session at the Brahmandap Temple, including Vidyabhusan (Pinku), Krishnachandra Panigrahi, Pandit Sarat Kumar Panda, Chandrakant Panigrahi, Pandit Maheswar Nayak, Banshidhar Satapathy, Jitendra Kumar Nanda, Shantanu Kumar Satapathy, Rabinarayan Panda, and others. Their combined expertise ensured the most auspicious timing for the festival, which the people of Western Odisha consider extremely important.
